Fiona asked us to design and create a new block paving Drive in Stadhampton.
The original farmhouse has been extended to accommodate modern living, so the outside space needed to match. We had to create a driveway that drains well, is large enough for 4 cars and make sure the materials used blend into the surroundings.
As our client is also our landlord, this job had to be completed to the highest standard – we have to drive past it every day!
The main track into the farm runs adjacent to the new driveway – this means that the area is prone to flood.
We installed two runs of ACO drainage with two soakaways to overcome this potential problem and raised the path edgings at the entrance to create a lip and divert water further down the path.
This is the first time a driveway has ever been installed at this historic site, and the ground was very soft. We had to excavate to a depth of 300mm to ensure we hit firmer ground.
“I am really pleased with how the driveway fits into the surroundings and it is already proving to be a useful addition. We needed the space to be both lovely to look at, and also useable – and we have got exactly what we needed. Many thanks.”
