These would often be used for Tennis Courts, FIH Hockey pitches, tarmac playgrounds. They typically consist of a construction with sub surface drainage, free draining stone layers and porous or non porous tarmac, (sometimes two layers of Tarmac or a single layer). These engineered bases are considerably more expensive than the other options, but they are of a high quality offering extremely true levels which stay within specification for many years.
Dynamic Base Systems
Similar to engineered bases, but without the tarmac layers, often laid without the sub surface drainage system, relying on the porous stone layers to act as one large soakaway. Dynamic base systems are often used under play grounds and Multi Use Play Areas where the formation layer is soft or a strong base is required to maintain levels.
Sand Envelope System
This comprises of two layers of heavy duty geotextile membrane with a 35 mm sharp sand layer sandwiched in-between. This system provides a strong sub base at a competitive price and would be used when the surface of the formation is soft and there is a potential for mud to contaminate the sand layer.
A standard base, consisting of 35 mm of compacted sharp sand, over laid with a heavy duty geotextile membrane. Acceptable under artificial grass in play grounds, high wear areas and light duty Multi Use games Areas.
